Dr. Anders Cohen: Expert in XLIF and other Neurosurgical Procedures

Among athletes with back problems – especially for tennis and basketball players, the eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF) is fast becoming popular as a treatment for disorders of the spine. XLIF is a minimally invasive procedure in which the spine surgeon directly accesses the intervertebral disc space and fuses the lumbar or low back spine from the patient’s side – not in the front or back which require making a large incision. A relatively new approach, it generally led to less scarring, less tissue trauma, less discomfort after the operation, and a shorter recovery period.
